“everyone was looking Down…”
Look Up! Fontaine the Pigeon Starts a Revolution
“Look UP! Fontaine the Pigeon Starts a Revolution” is a comedy about a small Pigeon trying to make a big difference.
On the surface, the book is a poop joke, a bird poop joke, about birds strategically and en’ masse pooping on peoples’ phones.
The book aims to start a conversation about screen use with children and comedically remind the adults in their lives to put their phones in their pockets.

“Everyone Needs to Read this.”
— Sandy, Britt’s mom
“New Orleans’s Version of Hitchcock’s Birds. Warning! Enter a book store- Look up, hold a book, and leave it with your phone in your pocket. Or else the pigeons of New Orleans will surely make a drop some time on your walk.”
— David Zalkind, owner of Frenchmen Art & Books
“This book is the best! It reminds us to engage with the world around us instead of our screens. I love that it tackles this sensitive subject with humor and beautiful and unique illustrations. This has become a new favorite in my boys' bedtime story rotation!”
— Brian, Amazon Review
“I love this book! It takes on an important topic with such comedic ease. I love that it’s set in New Orleans, too. Thanks for such a wonderful family read! My boys haven’t wanted me to read to them in a while but they love Fontaine!.”
— Anonymous, Amazon Review
“Not only is this book a humorous reminder of the risks we take, by being too drawn into our technology. It is also beautifully illustrated to keep you and your child engaged, and the poetry is exceedingly clever. Pick up a copy to share with your family, but don’t read it outside without
an umbrella!”

About Britt
Britt grew up in the elder millennial era. She reminisces about having a screen-free childhood, minus a little Nintendo, TV, and slow dial-up desktop, but no smartphones.
Concerned over how her cell phone took her attention away from her child, she wrote “Look Up! Fontaine the Pigeon Starts a Revolution” as an urban legend joke for her daughter.
Now, if she ever gets too caught up in her cell phone, her seven-year-old will politely remind her, “Mom, you better put that away before a bird poops on you!”
Britt works full-time for a fabulous nonprofit dedicated to advancing a “Revolution from the Heart of Nature.” Growing up in the Deep South Bible Belt, she affectionately describes her organization’s annual conference as a “Church camp for Mother Nature.”
She wrote Look Up! when her daughter was one year old (ironically, on her notes app on her phone plus a guitar on her lap). She still struggles with her screen use, but she hopes this story will inspire conversations between parents and children about what life was like before we all started looking down so much.
About Amanda
Amanda Romanick is a multi-disciplinary artist whose passion and education for craft began at the young age of 5 years old when she was hand-selected for the Talented Arts Program in her hometown parish.
She focused heavily on creative education and outlets like drawing and painting.
She graduated with honors from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a concentration in illustration and sequential art.
Amanda is also a mom of a young child and felt the need to create more balance between the natural world and screen use.
